Notes from Importer: In the heart of Montalcino, where history and winemaking intertwine, Martoccia is a shining example of family tradition and dedication to the land. Established in 1964 by Mauro Brunelli and Anna Savini, this family-owned estate began with just 3 hectares and a dream to craft wines that embody the spirit of Tuscany. Today, under the guidance of their son, Luca Brunelli, Martoccia has grown into a 25-hectare estate, blending heritage with innovation to produce wines that resonate with authenticity and elegance.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is an exercise in discernment, patience, and intention. Winemaker Luca Brunelli chose only the most densely concentrated grapes from low-yield vines to make the Brunello.

On the nose, aromas spill from the glass. First, you will notice red cherry and a touch of coriander, followed by intriguing notes of eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine unfolds, dark and brooding, hitting you with earthy layers of forest floor, mushrooms, and tree bark woven with a textured acidity and chewy tannins. It is aged for over 30 months in large Slavonian and French oak barrels, followed by a year in bottle. This is a contemplative and indulgent wine that Brunelli built to last. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying its layers and complexity now. You won’t regret it.

The artistic labels adorning the Martoccia bottles are the work of Robert Turchi, an 80- year-old painter native to Montalcino. Renowned for capturing the visceral identity and spirit of the region, Roberto’s dynamic and engaging art embodies the spirit of Martoccia and its rich wine-making and drinking traditions.
