Mae Son - Frizzante Red
From a special new project from Trentino-Alto Adige (Northern Italy near Austria and Switzerland) by Matteo F urlani (yes, that one) and NYC-based importer Jenny Lefcourt of J&F comes Mae Son.
This Frizzante Rosso is made from old indigenous varietals including Pavana, Rosara, Negrara, and Turca. The grapes are grown at high elevations on clay soil in Matteo’s native village Povo and all farmed organically and biodynamically. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts takes place in open stainless steel vats, with 20 days of skin contact. The freshly fermented wine is then aged on the lees in steel vats before aging in barrels for six months. It is then racked and undergoes a second fermentation in bottle, where it rests for four months.
Ruby red color, fruity and floral on the nose, fresh berries with a splash of bitterness but also a bit spicy with peppery notes. Pairs with roasted meats, stuffed pepper, and meaty pizza.
Region: Trentino - Alto-Adige, Italy
Grape: Pavana, Rosara, Negrara, Turca
Vintage: 2022
