100% Mencía from the Barcelas plot at 250m elevation, SE exposure on clay soils with pebbles/slate/alluvium from the Sil River. Hand harvested in early September. 70% destemmed, 30% whole cluster, spontaneous fermentation and aged for 14 months in used French oak foudres and barrels, 50% under a veil of flor and 6 months in stainless steel. Bottled in March 2021 and annual production is 3,200 bottles.
A fresh and vibrant wine, bright burgundy in color, balsamic and floral in the nose with light cocoa and smooth tannins on the mouth, red fruit, with vegetable notes, handles a slight chill and decanting nicely.
Pairs well with cured cheeses, charcuterie, spicy dishes.
