Elisabetta Foradori Vigneti dell Dolomiti -'Lezèr'
Lezèr ("light" in local dialect) was born from the terrible 2017 vintage, when the fruit from the vines that produced the Foradori Rosso were devastated by a summer hail storm. The grapes that remained were deemed incapable of producing a normal red, so instead a light, rosé/sort of red wine was produced. It proved so immensely popular that Emilio and Theo (her children) decided to continue making it each vintage.
The grapes will remain a majority Teroldego, though a small percentage of other grapes (ex: Schiava) may be added to the blend. The grapes are sourced from two vineyards they have been leasing and converting to biodynamics.
Elisabetta’s journey in her “wine life” is a familiar tale, but one that we never tire of hearing. The early death of her father unexpectedly hurtled her to the management of the family estate. Though “born among the vines” as she says, she took the helm at first more from a sense of duty than one of passion or vocation. Eventually, however, that passion and vocation came through the work itself, both in the vines and in the cellar.
This is a fun wine (darker rosé, lighter red, you decide) that is juicy and fun, with aromas of dry fruits and violets. On the palate cherry and dry cranberry and plum. Good acidity, low tannins, and so refreshing and delicious.
Region: Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy
Grape: 68 % Teroldego, 32% other varieties
Vintage: 2022
750ml
