Toro is a small region in northwestern Spain, near the border with Portugal, with an extreme climate (super dry, with hot days and cool nights). Planted mainly with Tinta de Toro, a local relative of Tempranillo, and the shy Malvasia (unrelated to the Mediterranean Malvasia), but also with some hawthorns of old Garnacha strains.
